Thankfully, Stupidity Is Not Always Rewarded

Unfortunately for me, it happened to be mine that was punished yesterday. Preamble: No one died. That is the important part.
So, Hi. This is my Jeep, Hercules, and this is his back bumper. In the last 30 hours, Hanover has gotten roughly a foot of snow. Most of it happened over the night before last. So when I had to get up and drive a friend to the airport at 8 am, I was a little on edge, but excited for the adventure. The roads had sort of been plowed. At least traveled enough that the road was visible in two tire tracks in one lane. When I got to the airport, my friend laughed that I had driven the entire way in 4WD, so I think "yeah, that was probably overkill for some of it, the roads really weren't awful." and I put it back into 2-wheel. The roads start to get bad again on my way home, but I'm only 30 miles from home and not in a hurry, so I don't bother to pull over and put it back into 4WD. Then, because the morning has worn on some, the traffic starts to build up and Dopey-Go-Slow in his Ford Escort is totally killing my buzz and I DO have homework to do... So then I decide to start passing people in the lane where there is probably 2 inches of snow on the road.

Long story short, I got caught on a patch of snow with my nearly-bald tires that almost didn't pass inspection in AUGUST and started to swerve. Slight correction and brake pumping didn't help fast enough and I spun across the road, smashed into the guardrail and ricocheted backwards into the ditch on the other side of the road. 4-Lo and I was able to drive back out onto the road (I'm an idiot) and that was only terrifying because I couldn't turn as I was climbing the ditch - I had to drive up perpendicular to the highway. Into oncoming traffic.

And there is almost no body damage. Almost. I feel like I deserved it. What a totally avoidable situation.... But I am SO thankful that I didn't hit anyone.
